News text is a special genre, which carries information and is widely disseminated. Therefore, the accuracy of its translation to a large extent affects the views and opinions of news readers on news facts. Foreign news translation, as one of the institutional translations, has a strong political nature. Under the guidance of Skopos theory, this article analyzed the Chinese-English translation of the Foreign Ministry spokespersons’ remarks, discussed translators need to consider language phenomena, grammatical structure and other factors from the perspective of Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule when translating, summarized the corresponding translation strategies and methods and proved the reliability and practicability of its theoretical application. It is expected to expand the theoretical application scope of Skopos theory, establish the translation concept of taking translation purpose as the center in foreign news translation, and provide reference for foreign news translation in the future.
