A Quantitative Study of High Intake of Fruits and Vegetables and Prostate Cancer Risk in Men: A Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies

Abstract: Background: Fruits and vegetables have been frequently recommended for the prevention of cancer. The evidence in agreement with this recommendation has been observational studies but results from some prospective studies have shown conflict results to this hypothesis. Presently, there are still doubts to the possibility of fruits and vegetables associated with a reduction in the risk of prostate cancer. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between the high intake of fruits and vegetables and risk of prostate cancer using observational studies and a meta-analytic approach. Design: A thorough literature search of published and un-published case control and cohort studies on total or high intake of fruits and vegetables and prostate cancer risk was conducted from august 2011 to date using multiple databases and the retrieved articles were appraised for inclusion into the meta-analysis.
